Skoda Rapid: Skoda Rapid Rider bookings halted, new base trim in-bound

NEW DELHI: Unable to cope up with the rise in demand of the entry-level Rider trim of Skoda Rapid has forced the Czech carmakers to pull the particular trim off the Indian market.
Skoda Rapid Rider was priced at Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable base variant among the C-sedans, which encompass the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
The 2020 Skoda Rapid Rider trim accounted for 30% of the total bookings made for the sedan. The bookings were more than what Skoda Auto had reckoned.
Skoda Auto India is set to replace the Rapid Rider trim with the new Skoda Rapid Rider Plus. The Czech carmaker will be tweaking up a few features in the entry-level trim to fill the void between the Rapid Rider (Rs 7.49 lakh) and the Rapid Ambition (Rs 9.99 lakh).
The mid-spec Rider Plus trim will have new colour schemes and upgraded features. Most of the other details are likely to be the same. The Skoda Rapid Rider Plus is expected to cost Rs 75,000- 1,00,000 more than its predecessor.
Additionally, Skoda Auto India is expected to launch the Rapid automatic trim in September.
